Selective listening?

Imagine this….It is a beautiful day, you decide to take your best 4-legged buddy out for a trail walk. You park, and let your buddy out…off leash of course! He goes off toward the trail head and starts sniffing and pottying. You begin to walk and everything is going well, your buddy is loving it and you too are enjoying the gift of nature. Then it happens, you hear something in the woods…so does your pal…then he sees it, a deer or squirrel…something fun to chase. Oh no! Ok, don’t panic…you call him to come. He doesn’t come, he is having the time of his life chasing whatever that may be, why in the world would he come back to you!? You are no where near as fun.

If this is an all too familiar scenario, let me be the first to tell you, that can all change. That’s right, no more chasing squirrels or deer, or just outright ignoring you. You can get there, with time, consistency and commitment.

A few things to remember:

  1. You need to be fun!!!
  2. Movement is motivating
  3. Always have a high value reward on you

Enjoy nature with your dog, worry free!
